Punggol-Based Outdoor Adventure School
Forest & Nature School is an educational approach and programme of delivery that has existed since the 1950’s worldwide. Forest & Nature School is play based, child-led, emergent, and inquiry-based where the learning takes place outdoors in a natural setting. Participants visit the same woodland on a regular, repeated basis over an extended period of time, through all kinds of weather and in all seasons.
Through play in the forest, children develop problem-solving skills, co-operation, self-esteem, and knowledge across many diverse subjects. Forest School allows children the time and space to develop their own interests, skills and explore through hands-on experiences. Children are given the freedom to use all of their senses to explore and experience nature. Being outdoors not only provides children with fresh air, but also encourages imaginative play, creativity, hand-eye coordination, balance, physical strength, mental clarity and a relationship to the land.
Taking advantage of geography to create authentic, meaningful, and engaging learning for children.
Organising observed categories of thrilling but safe play that children can engage in
Slowing down the way we teach so that children can take pleasure in learning
Stepping back from learning and developing critical thinking skills by analysing one's experience.
The Morning Class is specially set aside for preschoolers (ages 5-6 years old) and children will explore the Punggol District and be introduced to Punggol’s rich heritage and biodiversity. There will be lots of opportunities for children to engage in risky play and the key emphasis of the programme is to let children learn about nature, interact with nature, and foster a sense of belonging in the natural environment.
The Afternoon Class is catered for primary school children (ages 7-12 years old) and we inject science, language, art, history, geography, and math into our programme. Children will be engaged in project work, field trips, experiments, and they will have lots of opportunities to tinker with tools. The key emphasis of the programme is to encourage children to express their feelings and opinions confidently, and participate in activities and games that will develop their confidence and resilience.
