OUR STORY

The great outdoors have given me lots of opportunities and room to grow and develop into who I am today. My character, beliefs, and attitudes have largely been shaped during my formative years in the outdoor environment and there are three teachers in my life whom I am grateful for giving me such a wonderful experience in the outdoors;

Ms Carmen Leong and Ms Ho Mei Fong, for giving me the headstart that I needed to operate in the outdoor environment. I can never imagine myself kayaking out at sea when I was 9 years old but the both of them made it possible! Having Outdoor Activities Club (ODAC) as an Extra-Curriculuar Activity (ECA) in a Primary School was largely unheard of back in the 1990s but because of their firm belief in the power of experiential learning in the outdoors, they overcame all odds to champion ODAC in the Primary School that I was studying at and the rest is history.

Mr Chin Khen Theen, for his unwavering passion for student leadership development through the creative use of outdoor spaces. Under his mentorship and guidance, I was exposed to a wide variety of sports that include rock-climbing, dragon-boating and cycling. More than that, he imprinted in me the Servant Leadership Philosophy when he used John C Maxwell’s Leading from the Lockers to inspire us.

Through my teachers who have used the great outdoors to teach me valuable lessons, I have indeed gained so much and it is hence my very desire to share what I have experienced in the great outdoors with children & youth that I started Mel’s Adventure School.

Come join us in this adventurous journey of introspection and self-discovery. The sound, sight, smell, taste, and touch of the Great Outdoors beckons!

This is one of the best piece of news for us here at Mel’s Adventure School! Kudos to @nparksbuzz for this initiative! We certainly hope more of such nature playground will be rolled out in Punggol! https://t.co/EYN2r7xacn

This is rather appalling. Water is the driving force of all nature and in almost every country that I’ve been to, the river is where great cities flourish. https://t.co/nzhsATKeVT
